South Cornwall « England
1. Porthcurno
Certainly the most photogenic surf spot on the coast. Turquoise water, dramatic cliffs and top to bottom barrels. Only works at low tide and is prone to closing out. Lefts are best
2. Newlyn Harbour Wall
Right-hander off the harbour wall breaking over a rocky bottom. Works on big the south coast swells and is sheltered from the SW winds that go with them.
3. Station Rocks
Weak sloppy wave just east of Penzance. Takes a really big south coast swell to work and is rarely offshore when it works
4. Marazion
Long stretch of sandy beach that slopes too gently to produce any power. Takes a big south coast swell to get going and even then is more of a longboard wave. Can be the sheltered spot of last resort on a massive south coast swell
5. Perranuthnoe
Fairly sheltered spot, with less power than nearby Praa Sands. Gets good a few times every winter and can pack a bit of a punch
6. Praa Sands
Fast, powerful lefts and rights at the western end of the beach, often barrelling. When the banks are right the high tide shorey is the best
7. Porthleven
One of the UK's premier reef-breaks producing hollow, heavy waves. Gets crowded when it's on
8. Porthleven Pier
Short, powerful, hollow left and a longer , sometimes walling right. Mostly surfed by bodyboarders
