North Devon « England
1. Spekes Mill
Decent quality reef-break with a left and right off the peak. Picks up any swell going and can churn out a decent barrel. On the downside, it's hard to find, gets maxxed easily, can be busy and the locals are protective
2. Downend Point
Fast shallow reef-break that can deliver a long right with hollow sections on a good day. Left can be good, but gets closey with size Getting in and out is sketchy!
3. Croyde
Devon's best known and consequently busiest surf spot. On a low tide with the right conditions Croyde can deliver a fast, heavy and hollow wave to rival any in the UK.
4. Saunton Sands
Gently shelving beach producing long, slow walls - ideal for longboarders and beginners. Bit of shelter from N winds at the north end of the beach up by 'The Cave'
5. Westward Ho!
Slow and gutless waves are the order of the day in this run down holiday resort. Massive tidal range means a long walk when the tide's out. There is a surfable reef at the southern end of the beach
6. Putsborough
Southern end of Woolacombe beach. Sheltered from S/SW winds by Baggy Point. Not as intense as Croyde and tends to get crowded when everywhere else is blown out by a SW wind
7. Combesgate
Small cove seperated from Woolacombe at high tide. Often has a decent righthander breaking off the rocks at lower tides that is better than the rest of the beach
8. Woolacombe
Long (2 miles) stretch of beach just around the corner from Croyde. The surf however is a lot mellower, favouring longboarders and beginners. Decent right often to be found off the rocks at the northern end
