Am thinking of trying a stint in NZ at some point in the near future and was wondering where the best towns/cities are in terms of being close to good surf.
I.e. somewhere big enough to have a few jobs but with a good range of consistent surf on the doorstep -

Auckland, big city and short trips in any direction to good surf. Rugged west coast and smooth east coast. Week end trips south sound like a good idea too.
